“In the Depot”

The following video from Torfaen County Borough Council, Wales was played for us by one of our lecturers. The video actually won the CIPR (Chartered Institute for Public Relations) award for “best use of Social Media”. The results from the low-budget campaign speak for themselves, but what made it so successfully? Not just the typical things – but musical and emotional nostalgia (for some) as well as humour and the “local effect” (70-year-old Martha – “oh we’re on the news dear”, Husband Frank “No dear, but the village is”) – virally travelling social media. But also being used and re-shared by traditional media outlets, such as TV News, Newspapers and Radio, as well as journalists and the ever important weather presenters, surely making this an innovative and insightful campaign…
